Xiao Wang uses mixed media to produce dreamy images of figures and objects, which she finds aesthetically intriguing. Focusing on painting, collage and illustration, Xiao paints with watercolor, creates collage with mix media—usually material that alludes to her childhood—and draws religiously in her sketchbook.

Xiao meditates on the modesty and femininity as she depicts tender glimpses of beauty with which she encounters. Since the age of five, Xiao has experimented with materials’ textures. Mastering combination of media, she tears different paper to make collages and lacquers over it. Light strokes of watercolor paint petals of idealized flowers that blend as if abstractions. Her illustrations, mainly black lines on white paper, render features of the woman and exhibit feminine beauty through the eye of a woman.

Born in Shenyang, China, Xiao lives and works in New York. All art enthralls her; she works in many discourses: fashion design, clothing, shoes, jewelry. As a fashion model, Xiao notices delicate contours, patterns and colors in fashion that resonate through art and nature.
