Nola Zirin
Encountering one of Nola Zirin’s paintings is like falling into a boundless, unpredictable experience. Intricate color combinations juxtaposed with subtle enhancements of surface texture reveal the artist’s continued exploration of creating a sense of space within pure color. As non-representational paintings, Zirin transgresses the boundary between the everyday and the transcendental. Pictorial depth renders a light, buoyant floating effect even though each painting captures the movement and dynamism of this world.
In 2009 the artist exhibited Visual Vistas at the June Kelly Gallery, a solo show of new paintings that presented a series of abstract dioramas using shapes and patterns that sparked personal associations. The Simon Gallery of Morristown, New Jersey hosted another solo show of her paintings in October 2010. Zirin’s work also appeared in Splendor of Dynamic Structure and American Abstract Artists 75th Anniversary, two group shows organized by the American Abstract Artists.
Nola Zirin works in Dumbo, Brooklyn and continues to elaborate further on abstract painting as a viable genre. Densely hued surfaces affirm that colors create an array of feelings, rendering particular visual effects when combined. She studied painting with Milton Resnick and George Ortman at New York University and printmaking with Bob Blackburn.
