Francine Demeulenaere
Francine Demeulenaere is a painter from France who lives and works in New York City. Demeulenare works on canvas and paper that interweave intensely colorful paint with meditations on the cosmos, mysticism and our shared environment. The artist’s random selection of vibrant hues keeps her work far away from associations of repetition. Within each composition, Francine Demeulenaere consistently presents something new.
The four pieces presented here capture Demeulenaere’s resolution to increased ocean levels. Solar sculpture in hydrangea to power your devices at home, above solar apartments on piles (2018-19) is an experience in levity and color since the specific sense of perspective and ground remains elusive. Living above trees in solar flying apartments landing on piles (2019) portrays a similar, structural idea with acrylic paint on gold and black paper. Over a 28-inch square surface, white and blue squares signify windows extending from separate enclosures while the glowing green circles reveal tree tops. The contrasting colors seen in Solar, wind, sound sculpture in a garden to power all devices at home (2019) emphasizes our need for the waves of space while the large clusters of white circles seen in Healing energies (2019) reflect a synonymous feeling.
Francine Demeulenaere first studied at the École d’Architecture in Paris, followed by the École des Beaux-Arts. Her paintings have received frequent exhibitions in Berlin and Paris. In 2001, 2002 and 2004 Galerie Jacques Lévy in Paris presented two solo shows for the artist. Since moving to New York in 2004, Demeulenaere’s paintings have been seen throughout New York at spaces such as the Kaufman Arcade, Lorimoto Gallery, Gallery Onetwentyeight, Galerie Zürcher, and the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center. Francine Demeulenaere’s art appears in private collections located in the United States, France, England, Canada, Israel, Lebanon, Dubai, and Korea.
