Chanette Manso is an artist based in New York City and Nice, France. Manso combines choreography, florescent body paint and light painting photography into performances that render luminescent icons drawn from the archetypes of popular culture as well as Jungian psychology. By extending the transient movements of dance into the process of painted light, the artist transforms the fleeting, ephemeral moment into a series of permanent, painterly objects. Manso consistently utilizes light to trace vibrant colors through black space, imbuing a level of mystery into each of her representations.

Triquetra (2014) weaves two spheres between traces of green and blue light while Croix Romane (2014) portrays a white Roman cross breaking past a disc of orderly colors layered red, yellow, green and blue in front of a horizontal band of dark orange that appears in the background. Ink blot (2014) and Ink blot 2 (2014) mix anonymous black silhouettes that immerse themselves in either aqua blue or red, while echoing the visual rhythm seen in the representation of a Buddhist mandala.

As a French-American who was born in China, Chanette Manso has exhibited throughout France, Denmark and America since 1992 when the Espace du Pont Louis Philippe Gallery in Paris hosted her first solo show titled Photofolie I. In 1993 the Palais de Tokyo included her photography in a group exhibition titled Photofolie II. More recently Manso has been a speaker and mentor at various conferences that have addressed the emerging medium of light painting photography.

In December 2013, the artist’s work was included in the 2nd Light Painting World Exhibition that took place at the Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris. During 2014 Manso paricipated in three group exhibitions. One took place in Nice, France titled Entrez Dehors and was hosted by Au Parc Pheonix. The artist’s photography were also included in the International Light Painting Show that first appeared in Hong Kong, China and then to L’Embarcadère in Aubervilliers before continuing on to appear at L’UNESCO in Paris during January 2015. Chanette Manso’s most recent solo exhibition titled Le coeur à l’envers took place in Nice, France from January 29th to February 21st, 2015.
