Anne Ferrer

Anne Ferrer is a sculptor based in Paris, France who makes inflatable, kinetic objects that are either worn on the body or appear free-standing.  Since completing her MFA at Yale University in 1988, Ferrer has worked as a painter who places colors in space, playing with versatile and hybrid forms that are inspired by the human, animal, and floral worlds.  Air serves as a solution that resolves space and transport issues making each piece seem as if they literally breathe.

In May 2011 the artist premiered Billowing Beauty at the LAB Gallery in New York City, a sequence of three sculptures that were showcased in the gallery’s store-front windows.  As Carol Worthey’s site-specific score played through small speakers installed around the windows, Ferrer’s sculptures slowly inflated then danced, mingled and deflated in tandem.  This process continued during the length of the show, bridging sculpture to the urban thoroughfare.

Since 1994 the artist has exhibited in a number of group shows throughout France, as well as in Prague and Toronto. In 1998 Anne Ferrer completed studies the Sorbonne in Paris, the same year that her work appeared at the Nina Ricci House in Seoul, Korea as well as at the Art Institute of Chicago, in a show titled The Presence of Touch. Nikolai Fine Art in New York City featured the artist’s work in Sugar and Spice and Everything in 2002.  In 2009, her solo show Country Wave took place at the Blue Star Contemporary Arts Center in San Antionio, Texas. La vie en Rose appeared at the Dumbo Arts Festival in 2010.
