Adam Krueger employs his command of figurative painting’s formal qualities to rework and expand traditional trompe-l’oeil installation. Namely, negative space trusses a finished worked. He creates wall works, cut and fragmented oil and/or watercolor paintings mounted to PVC plastic and arranged directly on wall; cut outs, life-size figures painted on canvas that is adhered to freestanding plywood, on which faces are removed allowing a viewer to poses as art; ceramic casts of his favorite breasts adorned with grade-school award ribbons; sculpture in the round mounted to wall; “celebratizing” Super Sculpey molded action figures of Krueger, and; pencil drawings of a wedding ring and cigarette butt dissected from paper and packaged in plastic baggies that purport to be evidence.

Krueger’s artistic purview unfurls without a penumbra, as his mastery of implication unfolds. Public hair casts shadows on the wall; an audience of cymbal-banging monkey toys applauds painting.

Self-exploration ignites Krueger’s technical experimentation, evident in his destructive process: premeditation, photography, graphic design, drawing, painting, sculpture, cleavage, reformulation, application. Visually eclectic, his body of works exhibits scattered illuminations of introspection. Distancing himself from his work, he lingers on female form and relies on Italian Renaissance ideals of naturalistic portrait. However, undeniable voids allude to the artist’s hand.

Krueger (born and raised near Chicago) lives and works in New York City. He received his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, in 2004, after studying at Santa Reparata Internation School of Art, Florence, Italy, in 2003. Later he completed the MFA Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY. Currently, Krueger is represented by Rivera & Rivera, a gallery Los Angeles, CA.
