Carson Lynn

Carson Lynn is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles, California and specializes in digital photography.  Lynn’s subject matter veers away from the everyday, vernacular and is transformed into works of collage. The artist’s technique, moreover, is not a material cut-and-paste object.  Rather, Carson Lynn digitally alters subjects such as clouds, aerial views of landscape and video game motifs. He then aligns these components together, creating abstract vistas that remain compelling in both depth and tone.

Lynn works in series and begins each idea with photographs taken while hiking outside, throughout the unpredictable West Coast landscape.  These documents are then scanned and splintered before culminating into a unique group of digital photographs. As seen in the gallery below The Nowhere Gaze is a series that began in 2016 where black-and-white elements such as a still surface of water, or sandy beach, are punctuated with strong shades of red, blue, green and yellow. These colorful highlights do not appear in Walking Simulator (2016) but Lynn presents color again in Apotheosis (2017) that appears less intense and more balanced with the grayscale of black-and-white.

The artist’s most recent photographs, seen here, continue his presentation of the photograph as an unreliable medium.  Although the series is new, untitled and currently in progress, Lynn’s imagery fabricates different landscapes together - both virtual and real - in order to create a sense of space that remains independent of time.

In 2015 Carson Lynn graduated from Art Center College of Design and then first exhibited his photography in a group show titled Roots and Branches with the online gallery Don’t Take Pictures.  In 2016 Lynn was included in a group exhibition titled Winter Pictures hosted by the Humboldt Arts Foundation, based in New York. Since then his work has been featured extensively through Ello, Paper Journal, Der Greif, PDN and Not for Print.  Carson Lynn’s photographs have appeared throughout Los Angeles, California and in other cities such as Golden, Colorado; Oslo, Norway; and New York, New York.
