Dan Jian’s new paintings and drawings explore landscape as a motif and metaphor that convey a depth of meaning through the reductive representation of form.  Each composition is coated with different pastel shades of either black, blue, gray, pink or yellow that establish the illusion of a diaphanous atmosphere. This quickly transforms into a subtle allure that engages the observer.  

Throughout Dan Jian’s work there is a sense of mystery, the unknown, that shrouds her floating subjects. It is this lack of grounding, brought to life by briskly- applied color, that keeps one caught up in the process of looking while contemplating the indefinite.
