Christybomb is an artist who lives and works in New York City and Charleston, West Virginia.  The artist’s muse is the polished discards of machine-line, mass-produced objects that appear conspicuously throughout the hustle of American popular culture.  Sequins, googly eyes, paint, glitter, and adhesives take on new, unusable forms that are hypnotic and transfixing, provoking desire.  Christybomb brings beauty to the idea of the shiny, unwanted preservative as well as animation to the mundane.

Drawing heavily upon the pomp of drag queens and the aura of cosplay, Christybomb brings fiction into the gray everyday through the sparkle of an intricate veneer or by way of a smile’s shine.  Glitter Fags (2016) for instance, is a small assemblage of glitter-crusted cigarettes that are lit and rest around an ashtray over a black mound of tiny glass bits.  Colors explode in Supernova (2016), a rainbow circle of textured hues while the large mass of gray and white clouds seen throughout Peek-a-Boo (2016) are more charged by way of the artist’s use of scale.  Unicorn Candy (2016) recently appeared in Vogue Magazine online, and alludes to the voyeurism of glamorous, shadowed eyes that emerge and fade across a shimmering sheet of white light and small punctuations of color.

Since completing her Master of Fine Arts degree at the School of Visual Arts in 2015 Christybomb’s art has appeared in numerous exhibitions throughout New York such as Visual AIDS: Postcards from the Edge that took place at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. from January 29th to January 31st, 2016. During the summer, the artist exhibited in Chicago, Illinois as part of Parallel Lives that took place from May to June, 2016 at the Next Level Gallery.  In September Christybomb was profiled in a new book titled Making History: Bushwick that documents the art community in this Brooklyn enclave.  The artist’s work was also included in a complimentary group exhibition titled Making the Future that was on view at David & Schweitzer Contemporary from September 30th to October 16th, 2016. From October 26th to November 1st, Christybomb presented new mosaics at the Lazy Susan Gallery located in Manhattan.

Soon following, her work was featured at the SCOPE Miami Beach International Contemporary Art Show from November 29th to December 4th, 2016. Vogue Magazine online featured her installation in a photo diary titled Sasha Lane’s Bubbling Art Basel Miami Experience by Edward Barsamian. On December 17th, 2016 the Charleston Gazette-Mail published Rising art star Christybomb found her place in Charleston by Douglas Imbrogno to coincide with Deck the Walls a group exhibition at the TAS Gallery in Charleston, West Virginia. Christybomb is currently participating in Thru the Rabbit Hole 2 at Sideshow Gallery, located in Brooklyn, New York. She is also participating in Upprisa, a collaboration with Yoko Ono that is on view at the Reykjavik Art Museum in Reykjavik, Iceland.

In February 2017 the BAF Gallery in Brooklyn will host the artist’s first solo exhibition titled Heart Bomb. From April 21st to 24th, Christybomb will be the Featured [SOLO] Artist at Art Expo in New York City at Pier 94.  The artist is represented exclusively in the state of West Virginia by the TAS Gallery. Christybomb is also the President of "Christybomb, LLC" and has a pending registered trademark for Christybomb. Exciting new ventures will be announced that coincide directly with the LLC and trademark.
